Geminoid F2 ("F" stands for female) is a robotized copy of a Japanese woman whose identity has not been revealed. Ishiguro built the Geminoids as part of his work at Osaka University and ATR Intelligent Robotics and Communication Laboratories, in collaboration with Kokoro Co. When designing Geminoid F and F2, Ishiguro's team and the Kokoro engineers wanted to create an android that could display a wide variety of natural expressions. It is designed to be remotely controlled by a human operator using telepresence. The Geminoids are designed to travel to science museums, demonstrations and laboratories around the world. They are also used for entertainment. Geminoid-F plays the lead role in the Japanese movie 'Sayonara'. Whether used in the lab or in field experiments, the Geminoids help us understand how humans respond to their presence and how a robot's appearance affects the way we think about it.
