iCub robot
iCub. Asada Research Group. Osaka. Japan
The iCub is a humanoid robot designed to support research into ‘embodied AI’. It is the size of a five-year-old child. It can crawl on all fours, walk and sit upright to handle objects. Its hands are designed to enable advanced manipulation skills. To date, more than 40 robots have been built, which are available in laboratories across Europe, the US, Korea, Singapore, China and Japan. It is one of the few platforms in the world with a sensitive full-body sensor, enabling physical interaction with the environment, potentially including humans. I will present the iCub project in its entirety and demonstrate how it is evolving to realise the dream of a personal humanoid in every home.
