Weekend in Delft with Milou and her sister: history, cosiness and Delft blue!

Last weekend we headed out early for a lovely weekend in Delft. What a fun, atmospheric city! We were extremely lucky with the weather: bright sunshine, perfect terrace weather - that made everything even more fun.

Saturday morning: off to the top of Delft

We started our Saturday around 10.30 am with a visit to the Old and Nieuwe Kerk. Both churches are beautiful to look at and... you can even climb the Nieuwe Kerk! So hup, up the stairs. The view at the top was definitely worth the climb: you look out over the whole of Delft and the surrounding area. A great start to the day.

Lunch on the square

After the churches, it was time to take a break. We settled down on one of the cosy terraces on the Market Square, overlooking the imposing Town Hall. While enjoying a tasty lunch and a refreshing cocktail, we saw several couples passing by to say "I do" to each other. SO much fun to see!

Get creative at Royal Delft

In the afternoon, something very special was on the programme: a workshop at Royal Delft. Here we got to paint a Delft blue tile ourselves. Did you know that you first paint the design in black? Only after firing it in the kiln does the distinctive blue pattern appear. It was not easy to paint nice thin lines, but in the end we were very happy with the result - a super nice souvenir to take home.

Shopping & relaxing

After the workshop, we of course couldn't resist taking a stroll through Delft's cosy streets. There are plenty of nice boutiques and unique shops. We ended up doing some shopping after all 😉. Afterwards, it was time to check into our hotel and get some rest.We slept in the Ibis Styles Delft Centre hotel. A nice base with comfortable rooms and a top location on the edge of the city centre.

Evening in Delft: food & cosiness

In the evening, we headed out again. We dined at Het Postkantoor, where you can share small dishes. Delicious and cosy! After dinner, we ended the evening with a beer tasting at the atmospheric Delfts Brouwhuis. What a nice atmosphere all over town!

Sunday morning: art & coffee

After a good night's sleep, on Sunday morning we took a stroll along Delft's beautiful canals - a must when you're here. Then we visited the Vermeer Centre, where you learn more about the work and life of Johannes Vermeer. Very interesting!

Before returning home, we ended our weekend with a delicious coffee (and a cake, of course) at Koffie & Zo. Delft really surprised us. It is a compact city with a rich history, cosy restaurants, creative workshops and nice shops. Definitely recommended for a weekend trip. We will definitely be back!
