We take you along the Delft waterways, as the brothers Jacob and Nicolaes Kruikius made the map in 1712, commissioned by the Delfland district water boards.

Kruikius map of 1712
Made with the measuring instruments of the time, such as the Dutch Circle to measure angles and a measuring chain of fixed length. Despite the expansion of towns and villages in the area, for which polders ditches were filled, the map is still very accurate and current. On the map, the North Sea is at the top, turned a quarter turn because of the edge decorations.

The map shows all dykes, polder dykes, sluices, storage canals, polder waterways, mills, bridges and the plot layout of the area.
