Robot Nancy
Nancy. Design Museum Den Bosch.NL
Nancy, the embroidery-making robot lady from 1925, is a graceful automaton who gently bats her eyelashes and demurely crosses her ankles. Nancy was designed to mimic human movements and is an autonomous machine that can breathe, turn her head, cross her legs and embroider with subtlety. At the start of the 20th century, she was on display in a shop window, where she enchanted passers-by with her lifelike elegance and mechanical charm.
