Will you also shop and enjoy locally in Delft this season? In our beautiful city, you can shop with personal attention, unique products and expert advice from many entrepreneurs. We would like to introduce you to some of Delft's local entrepreneurs. Marjan van Galen is the proud entrepreneur of MVG Sport and she is happy to tell you more about her company and why you should buy local in Delft!

I am Marjan van Galen, 52 years old and I live with my partner and two cats in the fine EcoDus neighbourhood. We have been proud residents of our beautiful city of Delft for over 20 years. And I still discover new things in and about our city; a piece of history, a monument or something innovative from enterprising Delft.

As an athlete and outdoorsman, I like to explore the nature around Delft. But I also enjoy the little things nearby; the ferns growing on the walls of the canals and beautiful initiatives such as façade gardens in the city centre.

You will come across me in various places in and around Delft. Often in swimming, cycling or running clothes during my own outdoor or triathlon training sessions. I can also often be found at Queen's Gym, where my massage practice is located. There, too, you will see me either in comfortable massage clothes or in sportswear for a nice lesson. So people hardly (re)know me in a dress or in heels.

Why did you start your own business in Delft?
Sport and especially endurance sports like cycling, running and triathlon are my passion. And what could be better than turning your passion into your profession? That is why I started MVG Sport over 10 years ago. It makes me genuinely happy to help people become fitter and more energetic, to see them enjoy exercise and achieve goals that sometimes seem impossible at first.

I still experience massage, training and coaching mainly as something I enjoy doing rather than as 'work'. And I find that a real luxury.

What do you like best about being a local entrepreneur in the city of Delft?
The best part is that I actually have three local locations in Delft. My massage space inside women's sports school Queen's, in Vrijenban on the edge of the city centre. And how cool is it to be able to call the Delftse Hout your 'office'! Finally, at home in the EcoDus where I work out training schedules for endurance athletes.

Delft has a fine entrepreneurial climate. There are various supporting, but above all inspiring and connecting organisations such as the Entrepreneurs' Association Vrijenban Wippolder, Delft Verbindt, Dot and now Delft Marketing's wonderful Buy and Enjoy Locally campaign. As an entrepreneur, I definitely feel supported by the city as a result.

What makes your product and/or service unique for Delft residents and visitors compared to what other big brands/chains offer?
MVG Sport is unique because I am 😉 . Sometimes perhaps slightly absent-minded, but always with a focused goal in mind. Namely your goal, your challenge. That could be relaxation from stress or just taking on a sporting challenge like a triathlon. The most important thing for me is that you enjoy what you do. During personal or group training sessions, but also in following your training schedule.

Both in my massages, training sessions and coaching, you will experience my unique style. My knowledge of anatomy, physiology and training theory comes together with my own sports experience. My various massage forms such as sports, connective tissue, cupping and chair massages complement each other and are enhanced by my sporting background. My training and coaching are enriched by my belief in the importance of relaxation and recovery.

I enjoy sharing my passion and my knowledge, so you are more than welcome to visit my practice for a no-obligation personal conversation. Or speak to me at Queen's or in Delftse Hout.

How do you work together with other local entrepreneurs in Delft?
Since two years, my massage practice has been established within Delft's cosiest gym, Queen's in the Surinamestraat. This way, owner Simone Konincks, her enthusiastic team and I work together on exercise and relaxation.

As a masseur and trainer, there is a natural relationship with healthcare such as physio- or manual therapists, osteopaths and nutritionists. Within Delft, there are fortunately many good colleagues I can refer to. Sports clubs are also a nice addition to my offer and, fortunately, there is a great diversity of these in our city as well.

As a member of the Entrepreneurs' Association Vrijenban Wippolder, I find the contact with entrepreneurs in the neighbourhood very valuable; I learn a lot from them.

If you could give one message to Delft residents and visitors about local shopping, what would you tell them?
Buy and Enjoy locally and therefore sustainably in Delft. Buy and Enjoy from the entrepreneur around your corner. Or if you have more time, shop on the other side of Delft. Go walking, cycling or maybe even running. Deviate from your familiar route and who knows, you might discover a new entrepreneur or something else special in Delft.

Which other local entrepreneur(s) in Delft should residents and visitors definitely visit?
Ohhh, there really are too many to mention! Maybe what you are looking for is offered in your neighbourhood. Or you may find variations on what you are looking for because you can experience, feel, see, smell and taste it or because you get expert personal advice.

Don't forget our local offer of clubs, events and places of interest.
Have fun in our own beautiful city of Delft!
