Launch of 'Real Dellufs Bakkie' on Sustainability Day
The Echt Dellufs Bakkie is being launched in Delft on Sustainability Day. Delft is the first city in the Netherlands to introduce its own reusable cup as an alternative to disposable cups that are harmful to the environment.
From 1 July 2023, new regulations in the Netherlands aim to reduce disposable plastic. The rule requires operators to charge a surcharge for disposable cups made (partly) of plastic, or offer customers the option of bringing their own. More than 10 million coffee cups are consumed in Delft every year, much of which ends up in nature, with serious environmental consequences. This is why Delft is introducing its own reusable cup, a Echt Dellufs Bakkie.
How does it work?
From October 2024, you can get a reusable Real Dellufs Bakkie when you order tea or coffee to-go at affiliated Delft catering establishments (now 30 entrepreneurs) and anywhere on the TU Delft campus.
For the purchase, customers make a one-off investment of one euro. When you return the cup to one of the participating catering establishments or TU Delft, you will receive a coin that can be exchanged for a new clean Echt Dellufs Bakkie.
About the cups
The cups are available in two sizes: 30 cl. (for regular coffee) and 40 cl. (for cappuccino and tea).The cups can handle all hot drinks and can go in all types of dishwashers. They are made of fully recyclable polypropylene (PP).
Initiator Anita Abbenhuis ( General Manager Iibis Styles Delft City Centre) explains: "This initiative is an important step towards a waste-free city. Together we are making Delft more sustainable and reducing the huge amount of disposable plastic."
Echt Dellufs Bakkie is an initiative of Platform Bezoekerseconomie Delft and KHN Afdeling Delft in cooperation with Delft Marketing, Municipality of Delft and St. Centrum Management Delft. More information and a full list of participating locations can be found at echtdellufsbakkie.nl.
