Teun Verkerk ambassador of The robots are coming
The robots are coming welcomes Teun Verkerk as official ambassador. Teun Verkerk is a curator, maker and initiator operating at the intersection of technology, light art, interactive installations and public space. His work focuses on large-scale experiences in which technology, imagination and perception come together, and in which innovation is not explained, but experienced.
Teun Verkerk is known as co-initiator and curator of Highlight Delft, the annual light and technology festival that puts Delft on the map nationally and internationally. From that role, he has extensive experience in developing large-scale installations in public space, where technology, art and urban context reinforce each other. His practice deliberately moves between disciplines: from light art and interactive technology to scenography, engineering and audience experience.
His work focuses not on the individual object, but on the total system: the relationship between technology, environment and audience. Installations are often temporary, site-specific and technically complex, but always designed from a human scale. Technology acts as a means to evoke wonder, start conversations and open up new perspectives on the city and its future.
Thematically, Verkerk's work touches on questions of visibility, energy, data, movement and the way technology affects our living environment. Instead of presenting technology as abstract or distant, he literally brings it into the city. In doing so, he makes complex technological developments accessible to a wide audience, without oversimplifying them.
As ambassador of The robots are coming, Teun Verkerk is committed to the visible and spatial side of the theme year. He contributes to installations, routes and experiences in which robotics and technology are given a place in Delft's public space. His focus is on large-scale, accessible works that evoke curiosity and invite residents not just to look at technology, but to be part of it.
Within The robots are coming, his contribution forms an important link between art, technology and urban experience. Together with the other ambassadors, he helps to position robotics as something that exists not only in labs or factories, but also in streets, squares and the everyday life of the city.
With Teun Verkerk as ambassador, The robots are coming gets an experienced curator and connector who knows how technological innovation can be translated into impactful public experiences, and how a city can act as a stage for imagination, experimentation and encounter.
