One of my favourite things to do in Delft, and in general actually, is eating with friends and/or family. I can really enjoy chatting while enjoying delicious food. I am lucky that Delft has so many options when it comes to lunchrooms, restaurants and cosy terraces. Even though there are so many restaurants to visit, I often go to the same favourite places. And these I don't want to find out for you, so I am happy to share my favo food spots in Delft!
HANNO – Groots Café
An evening at HANNO never disappoints. Not only do the colourful interior and the always friendly staff instantly lift your spirits, but I could easily eat here every day. At HANNO, they have an incredibly diverse menu featuring dishes from all over the world. And what’s really great is that they practise shared dining here. So you share the dishes with your tablemates, which means you can try lots of different dishes! Because believe me, you’ll want to try everything. But if I had to recommend two dishes, they’d be the bao buns and the kara-age. The chicken pieces (kara-age) in particular are absolutely delicious. I order them at least twice whenever I eat at HANNO.
San Marco
Italian cuisine is my favourite, which is why I’m a regular at San Marco. When you dine here, you really do feel as though you’re in Italy for a moment. The restaurant has a stone oven imported from Italy in which the pizzas are cooked. What’s more, the kitchen staff are Italian, and that combination means you can really enjoy the tastiest pizzas in Delft here. The pizza burrata or the pizza Melanzane Zucchine (with burrata) are my go-to pizzas. But the antipasti, pasta dishes and, of course, the dolci (desserts) are always delicious too. San Marco is a firm favourite in my family for birthday dinners, and with good reason!
Delfts Brouwhuis
Although I’m not a fan of beer, the Delfts Brouwhuis is high on my list of favourite food spots in Delft. Not only is the atmosphere here always incredibly cosy, but the food is absolutely delicious too. For lunch, they serve generously filled sandwiches, which will give you the energy you need to get on with the day. In the evening, it’s the perfect spot for a hearty, indulgent meal. They do excellent burgers, for example. But what’s also great fun – and delicious – is sharing a selection of small dishes. My boyfriend and I recently shared five appetisers, and it was a huge success. I’d particularly recommend the Bavarian pretzels with cheese and beer dip. What makes the Delft Brouwhuis even more special is that you can take a seat in their 13th-century cellar. This cellar used to serve as a brewery. So things have really come full circle now that they’re brewing their own beer at the Brouwhuis. And I’ve heard from reliable sources that the beers here are delicious.
De Gist
De Gist is the place I go to with my friends for a drink. They have an incredibly wide variety of drinks here, from hot drinks to alcoholic and non-alcoholic options. And, of course, a nice drink calls for some good snacks, and they’ve certainly got those here. The cheese sticks are my go-to choice and they never disappoint. But we also often order Tante Fay’s pansit and chips with toppings here. And best of all, you can get snacks here until midnight, unlike many other places where the kitchen closes earlier. On a sunny day, the terrace at De Gist fills up quickly, as it’s a lovely spot sheltered from the wind where you can soak up the last rays of sunshine. I really enjoy sitting here myself…
Cin Cin Delft
If you’re looking for a great lunch spot, then Cin Cin Delft is the place for you. They serve breakfast, brunch, lunch and everything in between. This place is still relatively new in Delft, so I’m still exploring the menu, but so far not a single dish has disappointed. They serve delicious, generously filled sandwiches with, for example, avocado, carpaccio or spicy chicken. And you can make your sandwich even tastier by adding one of the many toppings. But you can also choose to share a selection of snacks with your friends. My recommendation? The ‘nachos me crazy’. Nachos with loads of toppings and heaps of cheese :) And in the summer, you can sit outside on the terrace where you can almost always enjoy the sunshine. It’s a real treat to visit.
