Eet- en Proeflokaal de Kurk has been a household name in Delft since 1974. A unique combination of cosy and bustling café until the late hours and atmospheric middle-class restaurant situated in a covered courtyard garden. The doors of De Kurk open on 12 July 1974. At the time, it was the part that is now the Old Dutch brown café. With might and main, renovations and carpentry were done in the former nail warehouse. The materials used were cheap but effective. As an example, we mention the scaffolding pipe used as a bar rail and the bar cladding made of zinc instead of expensive tropical hardwood. The very simplicity of the materials exudes an air of authenticity and honesty. The café soon became a huge attraction inside and outside the city, frequented by a very mixed Delft crowd that is completely at one with the many students here.
