Groundwater: On the corner of C. Fockstraat and Spoorsingel, you will find one of the 210 wells in Delft where the groundwater level is measured continuously.
Under the manhole cover you will find a monitoring well. This was installed in 1970, renewed in 2014 and has been continuously measuring the groundwater level ever since. The Municipality of Delft then knows how much space is left in the soil to store rainwater. But the groundwater level is also measured for other reasons, namely whether it is too high or too low. A high groundwater level can cause problems with water in basements, moisture in houses, dehydration of vegetation and so on. That is why the Municipality of Delft and the Delfland Water Board have installed these 210 monitoring wells in the city.
