Delft Illuminated: Winter magic

As winter approaches, Delft transforms into an atmospheric city of lights during Delft Verlicht. From December until the Christmas holidays, the city shows its most magical side, with sparkling light installations and festive decorations throughout the city centre.

The absolute highlight is Lichtjesavond, which takes place on the second Tuesday of December. On this special evening, the big Christmas tree is festively lit on the Markt. The city is then bathed in thousands of lights, and cosy stalls with hot drinks and local delicacies, together with live music, create a warm, winter atmosphere.

Delft Festival Summer: balmy evenings of music and fun

June - September

  • Delft Jazz Festival

  • Open Monument Day

  • Autumn Fair

October - December

  • Entry of Sinterklaas
    Sinterklaas and his Pieten arrive with Pakjesboot 7 at the Abtwoudsebrug and then travel through the city to the Markt for the festive final party.

  • Lichtjesavond
    The most magical night of the year. Delft city centre is transformed into a winter wonderland with light installations, music, theatre and an atmospheric Lichtjesmarkt.
