Successful opening of tourist season at Art Centre Delft
On 10 April, the festive opening of the tourist season took place at Art Centre Delft. During this inspiring afternoon, over 100 decision-makers from Delft's visitor economy came together to look ahead to what Delft has to offer this spring and summer.
The programme kicked off with an engaging pre-programme. Renske Swarts of Red Online shared valuable insights on the needs of German and Flemish tourists, and Ingrid Rip and Mireille van den Dop-Andeweg presented the Masterplan of the Delft Convention Bureau (part of Delft Marketing). As a third option, visitors could enjoy a walk through the beautiful sculpture garden of Art Centre Delft - a unique and peaceful spot on the outskirts of the city.
During the plenary session, Delft alderman Maaike Zwart (Sustainability, Work and Income and Economy) officially opened the meeting after which Tamar Maagdenberg of Art Centre Delft gave a brief introduction about the beautiful location. Then Michiel van der Schaaf, director of Delft Marketing, took over and gave an update the plans for the upcoming tourist season and about recent research. These show that the visitor economy provides enormous added value to a pleasant living environment in Delft, including an added value of almost 300 million and 25% of all jobs in the city.
To close, Chris van Vleuten gave a presentation on the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in the tourism sector. Together with Michiel van der Schaaf, he announced the launch of the AI Challenge Delft, in which Delft entrepreneurs have a unique opportunity to build basic knowledge about AI in a short time.
After the official programme, it was time for networking, while enjoying a snack and a drink in Art Centre Delft's sun-drenched garden. All in all, a successful meeting full of inspiration, knowledge sharing and encounters.
