Delft ready for tourist high season

Delft's visitor economy is ready for the summer holidays, which start on Saturday 13 July when school holidays start in the Central region. The Delft Festival Summer makes a visit to Delft extra attractive in the coming months, and with the opening of new VVV leaflet outlets, visitor information is available in more places.

With thousands of jobs and a huge contribution to the city's amenities and liveability, the visitor economy is very important for Delft's living environment. Visitors to the city are also increasingly important for maintaining vital functions such as shopping, catering, culture and heritage.

Summer crucial for post-COVID recovery
“Summer is a key period of the year in this regard,” says Michiel van der Schaaf, director of Delft Marketing. “Many Delft residents are on holiday, many visitors from outside the region are staying here, and holidaymakers are keen to get out and about to do fun things. Through initiatives such as the Delft Festival Summer, we are therefore trying to ensure that a visit to Delft this summer is an attractive prospect. We need that audience in Delft, not least to recover from the pandemic. Although it may sometimes seem otherwise, many businesses and other service providers will need years to restore their resilience to previous levels.”

New tourist information leaflet stands
To make visitor information available in more locations, new tourist information leaflet stands have been opened in recent weeks at the Vermeer Centrum Delft, Vakantiepark Delftse Hout and the passantenhaven. “As well as an increasing number of online visitors and over 80,000 visitors to the tourist information centre in the station concourse, we’ve noticed that there’s also a great need for leaflets or maps in other locations,” says tourist information coordinator Nel van der Maarel of Delft Marketing. “To provide these visitors with useful information, we therefore want to make visitor information available at busy locations throughout the city. With new tourist information leaflet stands at the Vermeer Centrum Delft, Vakantiepark Delftse Hout and the passantenhaven , we are taking the first step in this direction. There, we will offer the most commonly requested leaflets, with a minimal environmental footprint as we use recycled paper and replant trees in the countryside.”
