Piet Hein - The Death of a Sea Hero
until 14 September
More info
In January 2024, the restoration of the grave monument of Piet Hein, the renowned admiral who captured the Spanish silver fleet, began. This restoration has prompted an exhibition about Piet Hein and his era.
Alongside the restoration, the Old Church is hosting an exhibition about Piet Hein that sheds light on the man behind the famous capture of the Silver Fleet. Visitors will delve into Hein’s life, his era, and his impact on Dutch history.
The original armor of the renowned Dutch admiral has been specially loaned by the Rijksmuseum for this exhibition.
This exhibition gains special significance within the context of the Commemoration Year of the Slave Trade, as it critically examines the role of Dutch seafarers in the slave trade and reflects on our collective past.
