City Hall Camerbewaader In 1660, Van Leeuwenhoek becomes 'Camerbewaarder der Camer van Heeren Schepenen van Delft' in the city hall and is responsible for the maintenance of the council chamber and is usher during council meetings.

City rights
Delft was granted city rights by the count of Holland in 1246; the current city hall dates from 1620. Van Leeuwenhoek accumulates several more municipal positions that earn him an income; in 1677 he is appointed general district master (an inspector who looks after the day-to-day affairs of a district) and in 1679 also wine grower (calibrator who determined the contents of a barrel). Since 1669, Van Leeuwenhoek was also a sworn surveyor a profession he also practised.
