About Echt Dellufs Bakkie
Since 1 July 2023, you pay extra for disposable cups that are (partly) made of plastic. Businesses are obliged to charge a surcharge for a disposable plastic cup or serve coffee in a cup they bring themselves.
These new rules do not just happen. Together, we use an awful lot of disposable plastic, more than ten million coffee cups a year in Delft alone. A large proportion of this ends up in nature, which cannot break it down, making animals sick and predicting that by 2025 there will be more plastic in the oceans than fish.
Delft is sustainable!
As the first city in the Netherlands, we have a better alternative: 'Echt Dellufs Bakkie', our own reusable cup for use at affiliated catering establishments and at TU Delft.
Because in Delft, we think it's important to contribute to a sustainable society, a healthy climate and reducing waste and litter. And in this, we like to lead the way if necessary.
This is how it works
Since October 2024, you can get a reusable 'Echt Dellufs Bakkie' when ordering tea or coffee to-go at affiliated Delft catering establishments and on the TU Delft campus.
A Genuine Dellufs Bakkie consists of fully recyclable polypropylene. You pay a one-off euro to buy one. When you hand in the cup at one of the participating catering establishments or TU Delft, you will receive a coin that can be exchanged for a new and clean Echt Dellufs Bakkie.
Taking coffee with you? Then you can ask for a lid to go with it. You also pay a one-off extra 0.50 euro for this. Please note! Lids cannot be returned and are personal.

About the cups
Cups are available in three sizes: 20 cl. (for an espresso), 30 cl. (for regular coffee) and 40 cl. (for cappuccino and tea).
The cups can handle all hot drinks and can go in all types of dishwashers. They are made of fully recyclable polypropylene (PP).
Compared to other materials, PP performs best in terms of energy consumption during production and recyclability. It is also extremely strong: cups can be reused more than 500 times without any problems.
