Frequently asked questions Echt Dellufs Bakkie

Why a reusable cup?
Reusable cups combat the throwaway culture and prevent litter. A single reusable cup saves up to 200 disposable cups, and 85 per cent of the city’s waste consists of plastic. Using reusable cups therefore not only means less waste, but also a much cleaner Delft.

Am I obliged to use reusable cups?
From 1 July 2023, it will be prohibited to provide free disposable cups to your guests. As a business owner, you must charge your guests a fee. Guests may also bring their own cup.

What is Echt Dellufs Bakkie?
Echt Dellufs Bakkie is a Delft reusable and interchangeable cup in collaboration with Billie Cup that ensures less disposable waste and more circularity. The Bakkie is available in three cup sizes: 20 cl (for an espresso), 30 cl (for normal coffee) and 40 cl (for tea, cappuccino, etc.).

Can the cup go in the dishwasher?
Yes, Echt Dellufs Bakkie can go in all types of dishwashers.

How does it work?
When a guest orders coffee or tea to-go at one of the participating Delft locations, they receive it in a Echt Dellufs Bakkie. The guest pays a 1 euro deposit for this. Would the guest like a lid with it? This also costs 1 euro. When the guest finishes their coffee, they can exchange a Bakkie for a clean one or a deposit coin. Lids are not returnable, they are personal. On returning this coin, the guest can receive another clean Genuine Dellufs Bakkie the next time. This keeps the euro in circulation and makes it easy to reuse!

Can the Bakkie be used anywhere in Delft?
Echt Delfts Bakkie is available and can be handed in at participating Delft catering establishments and on the TU Delft campus. See all participating locations here.

What does Echt Dellufs Bakkie cost me as an entrepreneur?
Nothing. You register as a participant and pay one euro per cup, but you get that back from your guests if they take a Bakkie with them.

How much should I charge for the deposit?
For an ‘Echt Dellufs Bakkie’, you should charge one euro. Experience has shown that with a charge of one euro, an average of 95 per cent of the cups are returned. When a guest returns the cup, they receive a token (also worth one euro). Tokens can be exchanged for a cup (but not for cash).

Do I have to return damaged cups?
We ask you to take back all cups and return them to us for recycling. However, you do not, of course, need to refund the deposit for broken, damaged or heavily soiled cups.

What should I do with standard (plain) Billie Cups?
You can simply take these in and give the guest a ‘Echt Dellufs Bakkie’. Standard (plain) Billie Cups can be returned to us.

How long does an ‘Echt Dellufs Bakkie’ last?
Billie Cup guarantees that each cup can be washed and used at least 500 times. In practice, most cups are still intact even after 1,000 uses.
