VVV Delft staff welcome visitors daily with questions about attractions, hotels, transport, restaurants and packages in the city. Whether you are planning a short city trip or a longer stay in Delft, they will be happy to help you with personal and expert advice. Below is an overview of the most frequently asked questions at VVV Delft, handy for preparing your visit.

1. What can/should we see in Delft?
Biggest must-sees: The Old and Nieuwe Kerk, Royal Delft, Vermeer Centrum Delft and of course the entire historic city centre of Delft. Also depends on one's personal interests.

2. Where can I buy or join a guided city walk?
Free walking tours can be found online on the indelft.nl/en website.

At the VVV, we sell booklets with a historical city walk, in NL and EN for €5.95 and in DU for €4.50. This is a one-and-a-half-hour walk through the old city centre, with the option to extend the walk with three short additional routes. Then the walk takes a total of three hours.

Visitors can also join a guided walk. The Gilde Delft offers a one-and-a-half-hour entry walk daily. This walk starts at 14:00 at the Vermeer Centre (Voldergracht 21) and costs €7.50 pp. Bookings can be made via the Gilde Delft website, or buy a ticket at the VVV and Vermeer Centre. There are also several other guide organisations with options.

3. Where can I see how Delft Blue is made and how do I get there?
Royal Delft is Delft's oldest factory and is also a museum. About a 15-minute walk from the station, and 20 minutes from the markt, you will find the museum. You get an audioguided tour here and pay admission. With the museum card, you can enter for free.

In the Kerkstraat (left of the Nieuwe Kerk) is de Candelaer, which is a small workshop, but the entire production process takes place there. Next door, in the same street, is de Blauwe Tulp, where some of the production of Delft Blue also takes place.

Since 2022, there has also been a Heinen concept store on the Hippolytusbuurt in the premises of bakker van Maanen. However, no Delft Blue is made here.

4. Can I take a canal cruise?
You can board a canal boat from Koornmarkt every hour between 11 am and 5 pm between April and November. During the cruise, the skipper will give you explanations, at least in NL and EN. www. rondvaartdelft.nl

Canalhoppers are open boats owned by the Stunt Foundation and sail every day with a skipper. You can also hire a boat by the hour, which is cheaper if there are more people.

Sloepverhuur Delft is located in front of the station, here you can hire your own sloop, no boating licence needed.

5. Can I visit the church/tower?
This is possible every day except Sunday. You buy a ticket for the Nieuwe Kerk , which also entitles you to visit the Oude kerk. You can climb the tower of the Nieuwe Kerk provided the wind is not too strong. You can climb the tower at least one hour before closing time. You have to pay to climb the tower; this is not included when you visit the church.

In the Nieuwe Kerk you will find the graves of Hugo de Groot and William of Orange. Antonie van Leeuwenhoek, Vermeer, Piet Hein and Maarten Tromp are buried in the Oude Kerk .

6. Where is a toilet?
There are toilets at the railway station and at the bicycle shed on Oude Langendijk. Check this overview of all locations in Delft with a public toilet, or check the Hoge Nood App for accessible toilets.

A disabled toilet can be found at the Station, in the Vermeer Centre and the New and Oude Kerk.

7. Where are the shops?
The shops are indicated in pink on the map. In Delft the shops are spread out, there is not one large shopping street.

8. Where can I rent bicycles? What is a nice cycle route?
You can hire a bicycle at the following locations:

  • At various hotels.
  • Bike Totaal Wijtman on the Westlandseweg.
  • Life Cycle Delft on Achterom (Life Cycle is also open on Sundays).
  • Delft Station (OV-fiets, you need an OV-chip card for this).

The VVV sells various cycling maps (with junctions, for example) and has ready-made cycling routes for visitors (towards Midden-Delfland, towards the beach, and towards the Delft wood and Bieslandse bos). Cycle and the City organises guided cycling tours.

9. Are there public transport day passes or other discount cards?
HTM has a day pass for sale for €8.60 pp. These are on sale at the VVV, in the tram itself or online.

VVV VVV also sells a tourist day ticket for €17.50. This allows unlimited travel in Zuid-Holland for one day on all public transport except trains. We also recommend OV pay, i.e. direct check-in with debit or credit card.

10. How do we get to The Hague?
Tram 1 (direction Scheveningen Noord) is most convenient, you can get off at the Centrum stop or continue to Scheveningen, and one day ticket is all you need. Day ticket HTM can be bought at the VVV, it costs €8.60 pp, or in the tram itself.

11. Where can I park? Where is it cheaper or am I parked here?
We always recommend parking in one of the car parks, as the city centre is car-free. Often cheaper day passes are available, but you must order them in advance on the website. The Phoenixstraat car park is slightly more expensive than the other three.

Information on parking for the disabled can also be found on this website of Parkeren Delft.

12. Where can I withdraw cash?
You can do this on the Markt opposite Subway, at Geldmaat on the Jacob Gerritstraat and in the supermarkets.

When they ride they are in front of the town hall and you buy a ticket on the spot.

From November to April on Thursday to Sunday from 12.00 to 17.00.
